EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers of the Coastal Plain League have earned the top seed heading into the CPL Petitt Cup Playoffs that begin on Saturday, August 4th.·

Even with the Steamers loss on Tuesday, July 31st at the hands of the Columbia Blowfish the Fayetteville SwampDogs cannot catch the Steamers due in part to their 7-6 loss to the Wilson Tobs on Tuesday. Edenton, entering play today, has an overall record of 35-17 with one game remaining on their schedule. The best record the SwampDogs, who have three games remaining, can finish the 2012 season with is 35-19 record and that can only happen if they win their final three games.

Even if the Steamers lose their regular season finale on Thursday, August 2nd to the Peninsula Pilots the Steamers will finish at 35-18, a half game better then the SwampDogs best possible finish overall. Edenton will play the number eight seed team when the Playoffs begin on August 4th. The last few playoff spots are still up for grabs so it is not known yet who the Steamers will face in the opening round. Game one on August 4th will be on the road for Edenton with game two on August 5th and game three (if necessary) on August 6th in Edenton.

The second round of the CPL Petitt Cup playoffs runs from August 8th through August 10th and the championships series runs from August 12th through August 14th.

The Edenton Steamers are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league.
