Clams Continue to Stockpile Teammates

The Edenton Steamers announce the latest additions to the 2018 roster.

Zane Harris and Jorge Lozano of Wright State University and Alex Hart of Barton College will join Edenton this summer.

"With Wright State, you know you're going to get a very solid offensive program. They have good pitching, too. They develop their players into guys that can get drafted," said head coach Russ Burroughs.

"It brings maturity and success."

Harris, a 6'5" 255-pound red shirt freshman, will play first base and designated hitter. The Mansfield, OH native is hitting at a .366 clip this spring with 34 runs batted in over 82 at-bats.

"He's been phenomenal this season. I'm very excited to have him in the middle of our lineup," Coach Burroughs said.

Harris and Ben Whetstone, two of the biggest players on the team, will be the three or four hitters for the Steamers this season.

"They're really going to complement each other. With the short porch in right field, it's going to be a launching pad for Zane," Burroughs said.

Harris' teammate Lozano will be another pitcher for the Steamers. The right-hander from the Dominican Republic boasted a 3.38 earned run average in 2017.

"He's a great kid. He has a good mental mindset of the game," Coach Burroughs said.

Standing at 6'1" 193 pounds, the red shirt sophomore has not seen much time this year.

"Though he has not had many opportunities this spring, he will have every opportunity this summer with us to grow, making him better for Wright State next season," Burroughs said.

Hart will join Edenton with already-signed Barton teammate Troy Maslowski. A 6'2" 200-pound left-hander from Raleigh, NC, Hart has logged 35.2 innings in his freshman campaign so far.

"He will be a bullpen guy that will toss between two and three innings to help starters. I think he can anchor down the help needed for left-handed relief," Coach Burroughs said.

With all three players signing with someone else from their school, this marks the seventh and eighth pair of teammates for the Steamers.

Opening Day at Historic Hicks Field is on May 31st, as the Steamers host the Holly Springs Salamanders. Season tickets and ticket packages are on sale now and can be purchased by stopping by the Steamers office, or calling us at (252) 482-4080.
